Power Cost is a major problem in industries. For some plants, power cost forms the major part of the process cost for manufacturing. Though the power cost is different in different states, it is quite high in Maharashtra. It goes down in Gujarat and a few other states. In Maharasthra, it is as high as Rs. 10.50 including the other duties. This is very high. For customers who are bigger consumers of power, there is good news though. For starters, the minimum power bill should be about Rs. 70 lacs to Rs. 1 Crore. This need not be one plant electricity bill. For a bigger group of companies, the bill can be of combined plants.
The group which has a big power bill, will have to make an partial investment in one company. The company will generate solar power. The power generated by solar plant will be uploaded on the grid and that much power will be billed at Rs. 7 - Rs. 7.5 per unit for the next 25 years. The saving of Rs. 2.5 to 3 makes the breakeven of 2.5 to 3 years. For the balance 22 years, there is all saving. The solar plant need not be operated by you. It will be operated by third party. The solar power company will also have your stake.
For power requirement of 1 MW, a 5 MW solar power plant needs to be installed. This plant will be located at other location where there is ample low cost land available. There is no operational trouble. This is a big win-win. The company can also boost of environment friendly power usage. If you have a big power bill, it is time to consider this option.
