You might have heard of 80-20 principle which defines that 80% of your tasks will contribute towards 20 % results and the balance 20 % of what you do will directly impact into 80 % results. Similarly, if you want most of your tasks like that 20 % which will maximize your results, then you need to do that tasks will full focus. Most of the time, our attention is diverted due to many small small things which will not let us work on what we actually should do. In such times, it will lead to your important tasks being postponed.
Then comes the Pomodoro Technique. What is Pomodoro technique? Pomodoro technique is a technique of time management. It teaches us to focus on a task. In one of my earlier blogs, I had mentioned, how students can concentrate for approximately 45 minutes and hence the lectures are designed around this time. The break they get in between allows them to refocus themselves on the next lecture. Similarly, it has been observed that it is difficult to focus on to a task for more than 25 minutes. After that, the focus is lost and the efficiency gets down. What the technique suggests is to start your task and just while you start, keep an alarm of 25 minutes. You can disconnect yourself from everything for those 25 minutes and just focus on the task. As soon as the alarm goes off after 25 minutes, take a 5 minute break. The alarm gives you the convenience to focus for those 25 minutes without worrying about anything. since you have set an alarm, your mind will also be relaxed about other things and only focused on the task at hand. Do whatever in the 5 minute break. Make a mark for the first break. Resume again after 5 minutes.
After four such rounds, you need to take a bigger break, say of 20-30. You can use such breaks until your work gets completed. Such breaks allow your mind and body to focus on things on which you are working. Rather than working to distract you, your body will know that you will be getting a break in a short while and you should concentrate on the job.
